"A Little History of the Yancy Ride"
Come Join the fun and camaraderie that all started by a very humble and loving Person. Troy Yancy who will be gone 15 years this past January 11th, 2008. Troy always rode for every charity ride he could, starting 24 years ago in 1984 when he purchased his first Harley a 1984 FXRSDG Disc Glide Limited Edition one of 853 ever Built. It was the first Harley Doc's HD sold when Doc aquired His Dealership in 1984. Troy's bike will be leading the ride being driven by now owner David Yancy. Our family always got together when we could for the 4th of July weekend and took a bike ride just for fun. To ride and be with friends. The last time we rode with Troy on July 4th 1992. All 6 Yancy Brothers had motorcycles at the same time (in earlier years for some reason or another someone did not have a bike and/or could not make the ride). It was the only time we all rode together and unfortunately it was the last. As years past it was hard for everyone to get together being a large family with families of our own, therefore we missed many years of riding on the 4th. In 2005, we made a point of setting a date to get together for a ride. Several people had mentioned to Todd Yancy at his shop that they missed those rides and all the fun we use to have. We decided we should get together in Memory of Troy and do a 4th of July ride like we did years ago as it was so much fun seeing everyone. So the word went out, verbally about 2 weeks before the 4th and we had over 65 bikes and a lot of FUN! That year we started from the Yancy home in Gillett where we all grew up. Several people mentioned to Leslie that day that as long as we are riding... lets ride for a cause like Troy like to do. So the family tossed it around and the next year is when we started riding for charity organizations to help others. In 2006 we left from Gillett, where the Finish Line Bar & Grill hosted our departure. We had 102 bikes on that ride, and just over 150 people registered.
In 2007 we departed from Yancy Powersports in Hickory. Everyone enjoyed meeting at the shop. We had just over 200 motorcycles and about 350 people registered. We had a beautiful 100 mile ride and ended up once again at Klaus Lake Sports Bar where we had food, music, camaraderie and a great chance to see folks that we otherwise had not seen in years.
So, set your calendar for 7/5/08, a car, bike, truck...whatever! Come along & have a great time.
Thank You all for continuing to make this a Huge & Enjoyable Success.
